Prior to her time in Texas Tammie studied at the University of Oklahoma where she earned both a BA in Political Science with a minor in Spanish and a MA in Human Relations.  In addition, Tammie served in the Oklahoma Air National Guard as a Public Relations Representative for 12 years. Since moving to Texas, Tammie has been involved in peace and justice issues within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American (ELCA) and with local nonprofit organizations such as the Interfaith Community for Palestinian Rights (ICPR). Tammie has been a member of the Peace Not Walls Task Force for the SW Texas Synod of the ELCA since 2007 and was also the Texas Program Coordinator for the dance troupe Al Raja that visited from Ramallah, Palestine in 2006. Her interest and involvement in these peace and justice organizations/activities stemmed from a visit to Israel and Palestine in May of 2005 with the North Texas Syond of the ELCA.

This November Tammie will have the opportunity to participate in the EAPPI program (Ecumenical Accompaniment Programmed in Palestine and Israel) for a 3 month period of time. She will be a witness to daily life under occupation and will advocate for peace and justice by sending updates to supporters of what she experiences and witnesses while she is participating in the program. She will conduct presentations about her experience when she returns home.
